Types of Water Heaters
There is no one best water heater, each type has its own pros and cons and which one you should pick will depend on your specific needs such as your budget and household size. Here is some information on each of the most common types of water heater and when to choose them.
Storage Tank Heater
Storage tank heaters are the most common water heaters in homes today. They are large and fit approximately 30-60 gallons of water, making them a good choice for households that need a large, steady supply of hot water. However, because of their size, storage tank heaters are not always suitable for smaller homes with limited space.
Tankless Water Heater
Tankless or “on-demand” water heaters heat water instantly as you need it, so you do not need to have a large tank keeping water hot. Tankless water heaters are a great choice for condos or other small homes because they take up a fraction of the space of conventional hot water tanks.
Condensing Water Heater
A condensing water heater uses excess exhaust funneled from your home’s natural gas system and uses that to heat water for your household. Condensing water heaters are obviously only an option for people whose main source of energy is natural gas. These models use a tank and are large (usually at least 55 gallons), so they are only a good fit for homes that have some extra space.
